Innovative

Single Malt

Yukon, Canada

Take two lads in the Yukon, stick them on a canoe trip, and lo and behold, in 1997 a brewery was born. Fast forward to 2009 and these two blocks decided to buy a still, apply their brewing knowhow, and make whisky.

Mashed with water from glacier-fed streams.

Release 32 is from Two Brewers Innovative line. It’s composed of whiskies that are 7, 9 and 10 years of age. The heart of this release includes the last two remaining barrels of a roasted malt mash that has a great toasted and nutty character. Add in a touch of another specialty malt mash (munich and roasted), with some finishing in ex-peated whisky casks and we should have a dram with lots of depth.

Let’s jump in and find out.

The Review

The Sniff

My nose is met with malt, roasted grains and dark fruits. Hints of peanut brittle and a hidden trace of peat.

The Sip

Delicious on the palate. My tongue is greated with a nice creaminess that molds into a toasted peanut brittle, a wee hint of brine, and unlike the nose there’s citrus and vanilla.

The Finale

The citrus morphs into toasted oak, and a light peppery finish with brown sugar that has been melted and just started burning.

The Wrap-up

This was my introduction to Two Brewers, a distillery I had continued to hear great things about. I was pleasantly surprised that it lived up to what I have heard. Since then I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy more of their releases. If you have a chance to have a dram from them, don’t pass it by.
